What You Will Learn

Students will acquire in-depth knowledge and hands-on expertise in:

  • ​Access Control Fundamentals: Understanding the components of access control systems, including credentials, readers, and controllers.

  • Access Control Systems: Designing and installing stand-alone and multi-door systems, including the integration of IP and analog panels.

  • Readers & Credentials: Exploring various types of readers (magnetic strip, proximity, biometric, card-free, smartphone) and how to assign credentials.

  • Locks & Power Supplies: Installing and configuring magnetic locks, electric strikes, mechanical locks, and power supplies for seamless system operation.

  • Relay Systems: Integrating relays, such as request-to-exit devices and door contacts, into access control systems for efficient functionality.

  • System Design: Planning, designing, and implementing secure access control systems for residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

  • Troubleshooting: Fault-finding techniques for diagnosing and resolving issues with access control systems, including wiring, readers, and panels.

  • Safety & Building Codes: Understanding and adhering to safety protocols, building codes, and security regulations for compliant installations.

  • On-Site Surveys: Conducting practical surveys to assess system requirements, infrastructure, and to identify potential challenges before installation.

  • Maintenance & Documentation: Developing maintenance agreements, creating system documentation, and adhering to standards for system longevity and performance.
